Artist Harold Roe’s unique perspective on wildlife shines through vividly in his naturalistic paintings, several of which will adorn The Toledo Zoo’s African Animal Carousel when our new Africa! exhibit opens in 2004. A naturalist, outdoorsman and former navy seaman, Roe developed a keen eye for recreating animals and their habitats on canvas during his extensive travels through wilderness areas in Canada, Alaska, Africa and Australia where he observed many of his most striking subjects firsthand. His artful renderings capture both the beauty and drama of the natural world as it unfolds in a variety of habitats. The Toledo Zoo is extremely proud to offer several limited-edition prints of Mr. Roe’s paintings in our online gift shop and in our North Star Trading Post®.
